What is Cities for Earth?
Our world is warming and we have big challenges ahead. We need nature to be thriving and flourishing but we’ve never been so disconnected from the living systems that keep us alive on this amazing planet.
Cities for Earth is an initiative that aims to harness the rich life of cities and empower residents to act towards building sustainable, long-lasting solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss. We want people to join us and support our large-scale reforestation work in the Carpathian mountains in Europe, creating ‘Brighton and Hove Forests’ on the high summits of this incredible mountain range, as well as local projects in the UK.
We want to help connect people with nature through artistic and educational activities and collaborate on ways to reduce carbon emissions and balance our carbon footprints. By working with nature and each other we can help life, and ourselves, to flourish - and create a sense of community and purpose.
Are you ready to make a difference?
We are based in Brighton and so the city is our very first of City For Earth!
We are inviting organisations and individuals – including local businesses, artists, schools, universities and local councils – to join us in our tree-planting, rewilding mission. Together we really can make a difference!
It is predicted that natural solutions to climate change, including tree planting done in tandem with rebuilding wildlife corridors and protecting biodiversity havens, can help to deliver around a third of the global carbon capture required to help slow global warming by 2030-2050 – BUT WE NEED TO ACT FAST.
Funds raised in Brighton and Hove will be divided between our Romania and local projects.
There isn’t the land available for Brighton and Hove residents to offset their carbon impacts through tree planting close to the city. To make a real difference we need to plant at scale which we can do in huge areas in Romania. We also have smaller-scale local woodland restoration projects in the UK where we can take groups of children, supporters and volunteers to plant trees and learn about nature.
How does it work?
It’s easy to join… And there are so many benefits!
Cities for Earth members can raise funds in ways that suit them. Early participants include restaurants, cafes and retailers. Some add 1% for the planet to their invoices, some buy a tree when a certain product is sold (a particular dish or a coffee, for example), some plant a tree with every new subscription.
All participating businesses and partners display the Cities for Earth logo and QR code to promote their involvement with the campaign - as well as many other benefits. They receive posters and certificates stating the number of trees planted and we can estimate carbon sequestration and positive publicity.
We hold fun fundraising events in the city where our supporters can met locals on similar missions.
Get in touch with us and we can brainstorm ideas and you can become part of a vibrant community working towards a better future.
